514 E 12th Street was built in 1875 — a three-story brick building on a 25-by-85-foot city lot. It was completely renovated, top to bottom, in 2014–2015, and now holds four apartments with in-unit laundry and a shared courtyard.
Pendleton is the small triangle between Liberty Street, Reading Road and Sycamore Street, just east of Over-the-Rhine and north of downtown. It takes its name from George H. Pendleton (1825–1889), the Cincinnati senator behind the Pendleton Act, which created the merit-based federal civil service. Long counted as part of Over-the-Rhine — it still sits inside the Over-the-Rhine Historic District — Pendleton became a neighborhood in its own right in 1987. Its blocks are lined with 19th-century Italianate townhomes, carriage houses and brick tenement buildings, and the 2010s brought a rebuilt Ziegler Park and a wave of restored buildings.
