Built in 1878, 525 E 13th is a four-story brick building on a stone foundation, from the same era as the Italianate townhomes and brick tenement buildings that define Pendleton. It sits on a double-width lot with a fenced parking area — rare for the neighborhood. Today it holds four homes and our office, and one of them operates as The Pendleton Suite, our Superhost-rated short-term rental.
Pendleton is the small triangle between Liberty Street, Reading Road and Sycamore Street, just east of Over-the-Rhine and north of downtown. It takes its name from George H. Pendleton (1825–1889), the Cincinnati senator behind the Pendleton Act, which created the merit-based federal civil service. Long counted as part of Over-the-Rhine — it still sits inside the Over-the-Rhine Historic District — Pendleton became a neighborhood in its own right in 1987. Its blocks are lined with 19th-century Italianate townhomes, carriage houses and brick tenement buildings, and the 2010s brought a rebuilt Ziegler Park and a wave of restored buildings.
