541 Liberty Hill is a brick rowhouse from around 1880, built on a stone foundation with a full basement on a deep, narrow hillside lot. Its four apartments have been renovated, and Unit 4 has vaulted ceilings and views of the downtown skyline.
Liberty Hill runs through the Prospect Hill Historic District, the hillside enclave at the foot of Mt. Auburn that was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Most of its houses went up between 1860 and 1880 in the Italianate style, stepped up the slope behind stone retaining walls and iron fences. Just up the street, at 559 Liberty Hill, stands the 1870 home of Senator George H. Pendleton — a National Historic Landmark, and the namesake of the Pendleton neighborhood just down the hill.
